Bacon Pretzel Fury

I tried a bacon pretzel fury the last time I was at Busch Gardens, and afterward I ferociously tried to re-create it at home. I don't live close to the amusement park, so this version curbs my hankerings when back in the Midwest. —Alvin Ciepluch, Kenosha, Wisconsin

Ingredient:

  • 12 thick-sliced bacon strips
  • 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
  • 1-1/2 cups warm water (110° to 115°)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons plus 1/4 cup butter, melted and divided
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 to 4-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 6 wooden skewers
